Leaving Paradise :(

sunny 82 °F

Sadly, it was time for us to leave this wonderful place. After breakfast at Eleanor's we started packing. Don went snorkeling with Lee one more time and I finished the packing. There wasn't too much to pack due to the fact that all we had were bathing suits and clothes for dinner!

Our bus left at noon and the ride to the airport was not as bad as the one coming. We did have a bigger van, so maybe that was part of the reason. We got through security and customs with nary a problem and our flight actually took off 20 minutes early. It was a wonderfully uneventful flight and we arrived early, also. Our bags made it, so we got the shuttle to our parking lot, picked up the car and stopped for dinner. The only bad thing about returning was that it was raining when we arrived. Otherwise all was easy and went well.
It was a fabulous time in Jamaica and we are so happy for Ryan and Khristina. Now we have the reception to look forward to in New York on Friday. I'll keep y'all posted.

Sunday was a day to just relax and enjoy the resort. There was snorkeling, volleyball in the pool, swimming and, of course, eating! We all did our own thing with some path crossing during the day.
Justin and Gwen left to go home and recuperate before school on Monday.
It was beautiful for most of the day, but we did get some rain in the middle of the afternoon. It wasn't enough to deter anyone from any activiites, though.
Once again we had a gorgeous sunset, the last one for us :(

The Big Day!!

Saturday, November 26, 2011

sunny 87 °F

Saturday was windy when we got up, so only Don and Lee went snorkeling. They had a great time, though. The rest of the morning was spent at the beach and pool, again! Whew, it's really tough staying at a Sandals!! So much is expected of you! We did manage, though, and beached and pooled all we could.

Finally the time had come for the WEDDING! Yahoo!! It was a wonderful wedding right on the beach, only steps away from the blue water. The men looked so handsome in their cream colored linen suits, no ties, except for the groom. Flip flops were the footwear of choice for them. The girls were beautiful in their periwinkle, strapless dresses. They wore a beautiful, blue bracelet given to them by the bride, and little other jewelry. No footwear of any kind for the girls.

Khristina was escorted down the sand by her father and they both looked so happy. Her dress was a lovely, long white gown that was perfect for her. The same blue bracelet, not much more jewelry and bare feet, as well. A gorgeous bride!

The ceremony was performed by a local minister and it had all the traditional parts, followed by vows written by the groom and bride. Ryan and Khristina's vows were perfect! We laughed, we cried. What more could you want for your child's wedding?

After the ceremony there was a champagne toast, followed by cocktail hour and cake. The cake was a Jamaican Rum Cake (yum), and the bride and groom fed each other in a non-traditional, Jamaican way. Smooshing the cake into each other's faces was not allowed, thank goodness.

Afterwards we were all on our own for dinner. Ryan and Khristina had their own special dinner in the restaurant that had catered the rehearsal dinner. This one, Eleanor"s, is one of two that there is a dress code for. As it turns out, many of us also went to Eleanor's for dinner because we were already dressed up. The food was as wonderful as the previous night's. After dinner, another stop at the Martini Bar for many.

All in all it was a fabulous day, and we are so pleased to finally have Khristina as part of the family!

The weather . . . let's see high 80s, sunny, breezy.

Getting Ready

Friday, November 25, 2011

sunny 87 °F

Friday was a gorgeous day, again. Don and I had breakfast at Bayside, which is a buffet. The food was delicious!
The beach was calling to us, so we grabbed some towels and found a spot. They say there are 2 miles of beach and every inch is beautiful. There are umbrellas and trees, sunny places and shade. We chose shade and parked ourselves. The ocean is very calm with a reef not too far out, so swimming is delightful. The ocean water is actually warmer than the pool! After lounging by the water for the morning, we took a glass bottom boat ride out for a short cruise. The reef is close, and we were able to see many fish and many types of coral on the hour long ride.Gorgeous beach

Next we needed to dress for dinner. This was the rehearsal dinner (no actual rehearsal, though). It was a private party in a secluded spot just for us. There were 3 round tables beautifully decorated, white glove waiter service, open bar and a wonderful meal. First there was peppered shrimp, followed by a small salad, then filet of beef with blue cheese, mashed potatoes, and finally, Magical Moment Chocolate Mousse for dessert! Whew, it was a good thing we didn't eat too much during the day. There were a few toasts by members of the wedding party and everyone had a wonderful time. Afterwards it was off to the Martini Bar again.

Again the weather was great, high 80s with a breeze.

Let the Fun Begin!

November 24, 2011, Thanksgiving Day

sunny 87 °F

We are starting a new blog today and you will notice that the dates do not match. We did not have Internet while in Jamaica, so we are writing after the fact.
We flew out of Orlando on a direct (yeah!) flight to Montego Bay. The flight was wonderfully uneventful and we arrived 15 minutes early! Way to start! Ryan and Khristina had warned us that there was a 90 minute bus ride from the airport to Sandals, so we were prepared. Or we thought we were, anyway. The bus was a van, and the ride was closer to 2 hours. Okay, you say, big deal. It was a great big deal! The road was just about wide enough for 2 vehicles (which made it so much more fun when there was a huge truck coming at us), twisty and turny, full of enormous potholes and over mountains! It was quite an adventure, but we arrived safe and sound to be met at Sandals Whitehouse by our future daughter-in-law, given tropical drinks and escorted to our room.

Sandals Whitehouse, if you have never been, is an all inclusive resort on the western side of Jamaica. It is a beautiful resort with all of the rooms looking out towards the ocean. There are 3 European Villages, 5 full service restaurants, 2 swim up bars, 1 with a grill, 3 large pools, 3 huge hot tubs and about 2 miles of white sandy beach. Not a bad place to spend Thanksgiving.IMG_4788

By the time we arrived it was dinner time, so we got out of our travel clothes and into tropical dinner clothes and tried to find our way around. Luckily we found our son, Justin and his wife, Gwen. Our friends from Disney also appeared and the 6 of us went to dinner. It was Thanksgiving Day and Sandals knew it, so we all had a delicious turkey dinner! After dinner we managed to find Ryan and Khristina and some of their friends. We also found the Martini Bar!
All together 26 guests came to the celebration, with people arriving and leaving on different days.
The weather was gorgeous, with temps in the 80s and a wonderful breeze. Ahhhhh, paradise!
